Perfect 10 as Ceres-La Salle, Kaya FC warm up for AFC Cup matches with emphatic UFL wins

CERES-LA Salle and Kaya FC turned their respective United Football League matches on Wednesday night into virtual workouts for their crucial Asian Football Confederation Cup knockout stage matches next week.

The Busmen, behind a hat-trick from Patrick Reichelt and Bien Marañon, caged Agila FC, 10-1, before Kaya overwhelmed Forza, 10-2, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Ceres, which hosts South China of Hong Kong at Panaad Stadium on Tuesday, notched its second straight win after starting the tournament with a loss for six points the tie Kaya, which flies to Malaysia to face defending champion Johor Dairul Ta’zim at Larkin Stadium on Wednesday.

Nate Burkey scored for the second straight game, while Martin Steuble, Jalsor Soriano and Carlie De Murga also struck for Ceres

“We needed this win to get some momentum ahead of our important AFC Cup game,” Ceres stand-in coach Frank Muescan said. “It’s important for us to stay focused and disciplined because we know we will be facing a strong team in South China on Tuesday.”

Kaya, which lost to Stallion FC, 1-0, last Sunday, drew four goals from Robert Mendy, while Louis Clark and Kenshiro Daniels registered a brace each, and Eric Giganto and Sean Kane added one apiece.

Agila and Forza remained in 10th and 11th spot, respectively, stuck with a point each.
