Ceres moves closer of clinching UFL title after shutout win over Green Archers

CERES-LA Salle and Global FC posted emphatic shutout victories to keep their lofty positions in the United Football League.

Ceres rolled past Green Archers United, 7-0, after Global stomped Socceroo, 6-0, on Wednesday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Adrian Gallardo fired a hat-trick, while Lee Jeong Woo added a brace for the Bacolod-based Ceres, which tightened its grip on top after jacking up its point tally to 34 after 13 matches.

The former Division 2 champions thus only need to win two of their last four matches to clinch the title in their very first season in the top flight.

The Archers, on the other hand, lost for the fifth time in 14 matches to stay in sixth spot with 23 points.

Global kept its slim title bid alive after improving to 27 points after 13 outings to climb two spots to second, while leaving Socceroo in second to last place at ninth with only four points to show.

It was a balanced effort for the defending champions, who drew five different goal scorers, led by Hikaru Minegishi, who registered a brace.
