UNITED Football League and college standouts banner the Philippine 23-under football squad for the friendly against its Singaporean counterpart on Thursday at the Hougang Stadium in Singapore.
Mark Hartmann, one of the UFL’s leading scorers, heads the squad along with Loyola Meralco teammates Matthew Uy, Angelo Marasigan, and Amani Aguinaldo.
Jinggoy Valmayor, who scored the winner that clinched for Negros Occidental its second straight PFF-Suzuki Under-23 National Cup title against Davao last month, represent Pachanga-Diliman along with teammate Nathan Octavio.
Green Archers United goalkeeper Patrick Deyto and defenders Ronnie Aguisanda and Reymark Fernandez are also lined up along with Joshua Beloya and Jeremy Theuer of defending champion Global.
The 23-under Azkals, who were slated to arrive in Singapore on Tuesday, also have Carlo Liay from UAAP champion Ateneo and Neil Dorimon from NCAA titlist San Beda.
Fitch Arboleda, Paolo Bugas, David Fornea, Marco Poli, and Deo Segunial complete the 18-man squad.
Philippine Football Federation general secretary Edwin Gastanes clarified that the squad is not yet the side that will represent the country in the Southeast Asian games this December.
“The final squad will be known only before they leave for the SEA Games. You don’t decide as early as now. But for now it’s the official U-23 team for the friendly.”
The return friendly is tentatively set July 20.
