UST's Kevin Ferrer admits vomiting thrice before error-strewn performance against Bulldogs

    Jul 13, 2014

KEVIN Ferrer was not feeling well during University of Santo Tomas’ game against National University, but said it has nothing to do with his poor game in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament on Sunday.

Ferrer bared he vomited three times in the dugout prior to the game against the Bulldogs. The now acknowledged leader of the Tigers only finished with five points and committed seven turnovers in a 59-40 loss to the Bulldogs in the two teams’ season-opener.

His output was a far cry from his performance against NU the last time the two teams met, when the Tigers beat the Bulldogs twice to reach the Finals against eventual champion La Salle.

But Ferrer declined to point out his condition as the reason for his lackluster play.

“Hindi ko pinansin ‘yun,” Ferrer told a handful of reporters after the game.

Ferrer declined to expound on what triggered the illness, except that he lost his voice in his desire to be the leader of the team in practices, now that Jeric Teng is no longer with them.

“Namamalat ako. Kasi sa training, puro ako sigaw dahil kailangan ko i-lead ‘yung team ko. Importante kasi ang communication kaya sinisimulan ko na,” he said.

Instead, Ferrer pointed out UST is still in an adjustment stage as it enters the season with a new coach under in Bong Dela Cruz, who replaced longtime mentor Pido Jarencio.

"Medyo magulo pa kami. 'Yung iba hindi pa alam yung spots nila. First game rin namin kasi," said Ferrer.

“Bounce back naman parati ang UST,” said Ferrer.
