UE faces yet another ban as Olivares slapped with unsportsmanlike foul

    Aug 31, 2013

UNIVERSITY of the East faces the prospect of losing another player in its next outing after Ralf Olivares incurred an unsportsmanlike foul in the team’s UAAP men’s basketball game Saturday against National University.

Olivares incurred the unsportsmanlike foul after hitting Robin Rono with an elbow in the third quarter of the Red Warriors’ 73-81 loss to the Bulldogs, the school’s second straight defeat.

The unsportsmanlike foul came at a time when Olivares had already been handed a warning by commissioner Chito Loyzaga this season.

In a separate incident, Olivares was also caught on television replays shoving NU’s Jeff Javillonar while on the bench during the fourth quarter of the game that led to a bench technical foul.

Olivares also appeared to have stepped on NU player Nico Javelona in the first half.

Loyzaga has yet to hand out a decision pending a video review, although Olivares is facing a possible suspension in the Warriors’ next game against La Salle on Wednesday.

UE coach Boycie Zamar said he is ready for any eventuality.

“Maghihintay uli ako kung ano man ang desisyon,” he said.

The Warriors are already reeling from suspensions handed out on two key players in Lord Casajeros and Charles Mammie, who were originally given a two-game suspension each by the Commissioner’s Office.

Mammie will continue to miss UE’s game against La Salle, while Casajeros will already see action after the UAAP technical committee recently downgraded his suspension from two games to one.

Zamar acknowledged  Mammie was a big hole to fill and it showed in their loss to the Bulldogs.

“Marami akong Casajeros eh. Wala akong Mammie,” said Zamar.
