UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas put an end to Far Eastern University’s 26-game win streak with a 61-58 victory on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The last time the FEU belles lost was in Game One of the best-of-three championship series in September 24, 2011, a 56-60 setback to the Adamson University Lady Falcons.
Lore Rivera drained two charities in the last 12.2 seconds to seal the upset for the Tigresses, 60-56.
Maica Cortes had 20 points and 13 rebounds while Marian Mejia added 11 points and 13 boards for UST, which seized fourth spot with a 5-4 record. The Tigresses avenged their 51-52 first-round loss to the Lady Tamaraws, who are 9-1 this season.
Camille Sambile had 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for FEU. She was the only Lady Tamaraw who finished in double figures, with Marites Albano scoring nine and Vangie Soriano and Angelica Gabriel contributing eight markers each.
National University gained a share of the lead with FEU after a 68-61 win over University of the Philippines.
Anne Gupilan made 17 points, eight boards, four steals, three assists and two blocks, while Afril Bernardino added 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who are on a seven-game winning roll.
Bea Daez had 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Lady Maroons, who lost for the fifth time in nine starts to drop to fifth place.
