TERRENCE Romeo put on another scoring show on Wednesday, hitting 33 points as Far Eastern University capped its elimination round stint with an 87-69 win over University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The flamboyant Romeo hit a new scoring high for his college career for the second time in five days, surpassing his 32-point output against Adamson just last Saturday as the Tamaraws clinched at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four.
The Tamaraws go into the Final Four with a 10-4 win-loss card, still in with a chance at becoming the top seed in the playoffs if the results of the remaining games of the season fall their way.
“We are satisfied, but I’m not saying na nandoon na kami sa level na gusto namin,” said FEU coach Nash Racela. “We are still working on a lot of things. We are hoping that, by Final Four, napasok na namin ang kailangan namin."
Romeo, who also had nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals, scored 12 points in the second quarter alone to lead the breakaway that had the Tamaraws opening a 46-28 lead at the half.
Mike Tolomia added 15 points while RR Garcia added eight for the Tamaraws, who now go into the playoffs on a winning note.
“Season natin has been unpredictable, so you can’t really say you know what will happen (next),” said Racela.
