ROI Sumang bared he was under the weather prior to University of the East’s UAAP men’s basketball game against La Salle on Sunday.
Sumang said he suffered from tonsillitis earlier this week and only returned to practice on Friday, but wouldn't miss the all-important game against the defending champion Green Archers.
“Pagod talaga. Galing ako sa sakit. Nag-practice lang ako nung Friday at saka Saturday. Hindi talaga ako makabangon noong Tuesday at Wednesday,” Sumang said.
“Pinilit ko lang kasi kalaban La Salle.”
Despite coming in from sick bay, Sumang scored a team-high 16 points, but the Red Warriors failed to hold on when La Salle caame charging back to post a 60-58 victory.
Sumang shot 5-of-19 from the field and airballed the potential game-tying shot on a drive as the Red Warriors tumbled to their first loss on their third game of the season.
The former national team standout credited La Salle’s composure with its execution in the endgame.
“Maganda talaga nilaro ng La Salle. Dumating ‘yung fourth quarter, mas maganda ang execution nila,” said Sumang.
As he ended his interview with reporters, Sumang vowed to bounce back.
“Nangyari na eh. Siguro bawi na lang kami,” said the UE star.
