AFTER hitting a big three-point shot late in the fourth quarter, De La Salle guard LA Revilla let out a wide smile as he trotted back to the bench. He had just given the Green Archers an eight-point lead in the final 55.1 seconds.
And he had every reason to be ecstatic.
Revilla finished with a season-high 20 points including six triples in La Salle’s 74-69 win over Far Eastern University, moving the Green Archers one win shy of moving in the UAAP men’s basketball Finals.
The La Salle playmaker was a big recipient of so many open looks, allowing him to shoot 6-of-11 from the three-point range as FEU’s defense concentrated on clogging the lanes.
In total, the Green Archers converted 11 triples.
“That was what FEU is giving us,” De La Salle coach Juno Sauler pointed out. “They were clogging the paint, our bigs. So the guards got open in the perimeter with the way they defended us.”
“Ang lalaki nila, so sinisiksik namin,” FEU coach Nash Racela later admitted.
For Revilla, it was also a chance to redeem himself.
His offensive explosion came at a time when the veteran point guard has been in and out of the rotation by sharing the backcourt minutes with Almond Vosotros, Thomas Torres, and Kib Montalbo.
“Well, sa akin lang, kapag binigyan ako ng chance, I’ll just grab it,” said Revilla, who only averaged 4.3 points and made just four triples the entire regular season.
He, however, refused to grab the credit for the win.
“Blessed lang. Luckily, binigay Niya (God) sa akin ‘yung mga open shots. And then, I took the chance and made it,” said Revilla.
