GELO Alolino scored 20 points as National University defeated University of the Philippines, 70-59, on Saturday to remain undefeated in the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Troy Rosario added 17 markers while Alfred Aroga added 16 points for the Bulldogs, whose 2-0 (win-loss) start gave them the early lead in the standings.
Alolino went 4-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc to set the tone for the Bulldogs, who pulled away from a 37-33 halftime lead by scoring the first seven points of the third.
“We are happy with the win although I’m not really happy with how we played. We were very erratic and committed a lot of turnovers. We got the lead but somehow we forced things,” said NU coach Eric Altamirano.
The Bulldogs never wavered as they eventually outscored the Maroons, 20-11, in the third period.
The Maroons fell to 0-2 as they lost their 23rd game in a row.
