NEWLY-installed University of the Philippines coach Rey Madrid’s UAAP comeback will have to wait.
The Fighting Maroons’ tiff against University of the East Warriors on Wednesday was called off by league officials along with the rest of the men’s and women’s basketball games scheduled at the Mall of Asia Arena due to inclement weather.
The 2 p.m. match was supposed to mark the return to coaching of Madrid, who took over the reins when Ricky Dandan resigned on Monday. Madrid briefly served as UP coach in the early nineties.
“Due to continuous rain and flood around the metro, we are cancelling UAAP men’s and women’s basketball games tomorrow (August 21),” said UAAP secretary treasurer Malou Isip in a statement.
Make-up date will be announced later while fans were also advised to hold on to their tickets.
The Warriors are on a four-game winning run going to their match-up with the winless Maroons.
The main game, meanwhile, was supposed to feature last year’s Finals protagonists in University of Santo Tomas and defending champion Ateneo.
Postponed games in the women’s division pit La Salle against UE at 8 a.m., and Adamson against Ateneo at 10 a.m.
Junior games at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Tuesday had earlier been postponed owing to heavy rain that battered the metropolis brought about by tropical storm Maring.
