    Sep 26, 2012

ATENEO's Lady Eagles clinched a spot in the postseason for the first time in five years with a 50-48 win over National University on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Samantha Ong had 11 points while Danica Jose added 11 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks as the Lady Eagles clinched the No. 4 spot in the stepladder semifinals.

Sarah Mercado had 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks while Valerie Chua had eight points and 13 boards for Ateneo, which last played in the postseason during their run to the title in 2007.

The Lady Eagles will face third-ranked Adamson in the first step-ladder match on Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

The winner will take on second-seed La Salle for the right to play Far Eastern University, which swept the elimination round to gain a thrice-to-beat advantage in the finals.

Risa Paig had 14 points while Joi Tolentino added 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
