ARNOLD Van Opstal is listed as day-to-day after suffering an injury in practice as De La Salle prepares for the Philippine Collegiate Champions League this coming week.
Van Opstal was in uniform for the Green Archers in the benefit game against San Beda on Saturday but La Salle coach Juno Sauler decided not to field their center.
“He got bumped or hit by Norbert (Torres) in the shin so he is recovering from that,” said Sauler.
Sauler was non-committal about Van Opstal’s status for Monday’s game against Southwestern University to start off the Final Four round robin that also includes the Red Lions, Far Eastern University, and Southwestern University.
“I’m not sure if he will be playing on Monday,” said Sauler.
Van Opstal’s presence will be a key for the Green Archers, who will be facing behemoths in San Beda’s Ola Adeogun and SWU’s Landry Sanjo in the PCCL.
For his part, Jeron Teng believes that the UAAP champions will be okay in the PCCL with or without Van Opstal.
“I think we are good. May mga injuries kami like Arnold but we are going to do our best in the PCCL,” said Teng.
La Salle is eyeing a repeat of its 2008 PCCL crown.
