UP Maroons Kyles Lao disappointed to sit out UAAP season after suffering ACL injury

    May 10, 2015

KYLES Lao said he is bummed to miss University of the Philippines' campaign in the coming UAAP season after suffering an ACL tear in his left knee in a preseason game.

The former Rookie of the Year said the Maroons are coming together as a team under a revamped coaching staff and he rued not being able to join them in the coming collegiate season.

Lao believes the state-run university will have a better team this year, having kept a relatively intact lineup from last year that can still count on players like JR Gallarza, Diego Dario, and Dave Moralde.

The Maroons have also turned into a defensive-oriented team now under the new coaching staff led by Joe Ward, Lao added.

“Solid pa ‘yung team. Maraming talent and potential that can give all the teams a scare,” said Lao.

UP took La Salle to the limit on Friday, with the Green Archers needing overtime to beat the Maroons, 82-79, despite Lao sitting out after suffering suffering the injury.

Still, Lao still has high hopes for the Maroons.

“I’m sure many of my teammates will step up. The team is really disciplined and follows the system. The team doesn’t care who the top scorer is. Focus talaga namin sa defense,” said Lao.

As for his injury, Lao said he will have an MRI on Monday to know the extend of the damage on his left knee.
