Kiefer Ravena takes blame for Ateneo loss: ‘My teammates stepped up, I didn’t’

    Sep 26, 2015

KIEFER Ravena took the blame for Ateneo’s loss to University of Santo Tomas after the reigning Most Valuable Player came up empty in the clutch.

Ravena scored 13 points, coming up with just one point in the fourth period, and hit just 4-of-18 from the field as the Blue Eagles fell to 3-2 after a 10-point loss to the Tigers on Saturday.

Ravena later tweeted “On me” before explaining his feelings to a handful reporters after the game.

“I couldn’t make my shots in the end,” Ravena said. “It’s not everyday you get to make those kinds of shots.”

“My teammates stepped up, I didn’t,” Ravena added.

Ateneo coach Bo Perasol, meanwhile, pointed fatigue as the reason for Ravena’s struggles, saying he was not able to rest the star player during that scintillating run by the Growling Tigers.

“I think it was more of a fatigue factor,” Perasol said. “Pagod na rin siya sa dulo kasi I wasn’t able to substitute him in the fourth. I was hoping that we could get a run and mapahinga ko siya for two minutes.”

While he struggled in the fourth quarter, Ravena gave credit to UST, which erected a 22-1 run to come away with a 68-58 victory, with Kevin Ferrer leading the Growling Tigers with 27 points.

“UST made their shots. Kevin made his shots. Karim (Abdul) made a crucial and-1. I don’t know what happened with that save by Daquioag. But breaks of the game. Like our NU game, the breaks went to us. This time, we didn’t have the breaks. It’s all part of the game,” said Ravena.
