WHEN Kiefer Ravena makes his final run in an Ateneo Blue Eagles jersey in the coming UAAP Season 78, his brother Thirdy likely won't be by his side.
Spin.ph has learned on Monday that the younger Ravena was declared ineligible by Ateneo academics officials for failing to reach the mandatory 1.8 average required from the Katipunan-based school's student athletes.
Ang nag-disqualify actually sa kanya, Ateneo, hindi UAAP,” said the source who asked not to be identified.
The development will come as a dampener for the Ravena family as the coming season will be the last chance for Thirdy to play alongside his brother Kiefer, who is already in his final season of eligibility with the Blue Eagles.
Kaso nga nangyari ito,” the source added of Thirdy, who no longer took part in Ateneo’s training recently in Las Vegas.
It will be recalled that one of the reasons why Kiefer decided to play in his last season with Ateneo is the chance to take his brother under his wings.
Ineligible to play for Ateneo in the coming season, Thirdy has been relegated to the school's team B, a huge demotion considering he was once a member of the Gilas cadet pool where he was also among the final cuts.
Another source bared that incoming sophomore big man Arvin Tolentino nearly suffered the same fate, but the former San Beda Red Cub was able to catch up and improve his grades in the second semester.
“Muntik na rin si Arvin. Pero naghabol siya 'nung second semester. Nahabol niya yung 1.8,” said the Ateneo insider.
