UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas standout Kevin Ferrer said the playing for the Tigers in the UAAP is still his top priority although he is not closing the door on a possible jump to the PBA.
"Siyempre, school muna,” Ferrer told Spin.ph when asked about his priorities amid interest from Blackwater Sports - his team in the D-League which has expressed interest to bring up the gangling UST forward should it be given direct-hire privileges in its debut season in the PBA.
The 6-4 forward, who won a gold medal in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar, has played for Blackwater Sports for three D-League conferences including the 2013 Foundation Cup where the Elite won the crown via sweep of the favored NLEX Road Warriors.
Ferrer hinted the PBA board's decision on the direct-hire concessions being sought by Blackwater and fellow expansion teams Columbia Autocar Corp. (Kia Motors) and Metro Pacific Investments (NLEX) will weigh heavily in his decision to turn pro or not.
“Wala pa naman ‘yung direct hire. Pinag-uusapan pa lang kaya sa ngayon, school muna. Biglaan po kasi ‘yung nangyari kaya depende pa,” Ferrer said.
For now, the former UAAP Rookie of the Year said he is not giving the PBA much thought as he is focused on the PBA D-League while also attending UST's practices which are now in high gear following the appointment of Segundo ‘Bong’ Dela Cruz as the new head coach.
“Hindi ko pa iniisip ‘yan dahil focused muna ako dito sa D-League at sa UST,” said Ferrer.
