Kevin Ferrer proud and honored on Kiefer Ravena's gesture to share MVP award with him

    Nov 29, 2015

KEVIN Ferrer said it was an honor for Kiefer Ravena to share and raise the Most Valuable Player plum with him during the awarding ceremony of UAAP Season 78 Saturday.

The University of Santo Tomas star said he was surprised when Ravena made him join during the trophy presentation and lift the MVP trophy together.

Later, Ravena said he made the gesture because he felt Ferrer also deserves the league’s coveted individual award.

“Isang karangalan din na kasabayan ko, sinama pa ako,” said Ferrer, who have been playing against Ravena since their high school days with their respective schools.

“Masaya kasi since high school na kami magkasama at magkalaban. Nagulat rin ako na binigyan niya ako ng MVP niya,” said Ferrer.

The 6-foot-4 UST forward later made a case for Ravena’s gesture as he fired away six triples in the third quarter to finish with 29 points in a 64-56 win over Far Eastern University in Game Two and force a do-or-die encounter for the title.

“Co-MVP nga,” said FEU coach Nash Racela about Ferrer’s scintillating performance. “I guess he just showed why Kiefer said that they are co-MVPs.”

“Kevin is a veteran. We have been together sa Gilas cadets and in the SEA Games. He knows what he is capable of doing. It just happened na pumutok siya ng ganun. I was waiting for him to miss pero hindi nangyari,” said Racela.

Ravena said he is proud of what Ferrer has accomplished for UST when he led the Tigers to the finals in his last playing year for the Espana-based school.

“More than the statistics, it’s how he represented his school. I’m really proud of him. Growing up and watching him play, he has evolved into a great leader,” he said.
