LA Salle coach Juno Sauler says the defending champion's two losses to start the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball season is down to their lack of consistency.
The Archers suffered a stinging 97-86 loss to rival Ateneo Blue Eagles on Sunday, failing to hold on to an early 13-4 lead and sputtering towards the end.
The same thing happened to them in their opening game against Far Eastern University Tamaraws, who they led by as much as 13 points only to come short in the end, 82-77.
“There were instances na okay kami. There were instances na nawawala. We have to play consistent,” said Sauler.
Against Ateneo, Sauler pointed to the statistics to show the difference between the two rivals.
He noted Ateneo shot 10-of-27 from behind the arc, with Kiefer Ravena scoring 29 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range, including four in the pivotal fourth period.
In contrast, La Salle shot just 6-of-28 from the three-point region, and 34-of-85 overall.
“Ateneo shot the ball well especially in the fourth and Kiefer made some tough shots,” said Sauler.
Jason Perkins had 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Almond Vosotros added 18 markers. Jeron Teng also had a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
