JERON Teng is confident La Salle will still do well even without injured guard Thomas Torres.
Teng said the loss of Torres due to a fractured toe is a setback to the Green Archers’ campaign in the Season 77 of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament, but he believes the reigning champions will remain competitive even without him.
The injury which Torres suffered during La Salle’s game against Ateneo is expected to sideline him for at least six weeks.
“Si Thomas is a big factor for the team,” said Teng after La Salle claimed its first win for the season over National University. ”He is one of the leaders of the team. Starting point guard namin siya. It’s a big loss pero ‘yung team namin, anyone can help in our team.”
Teng, who had nine points, six rebounds, and five assists in the Green Archers’ 57-55 win over the Bulldogs, also expressed confidence in back-up guard Kib Montalbo who played well against NU on Wednesday.
“Anyone can help in our team. Kib stepped up big time in this game. Even though he only had a few points, he led our team inside the court,” said the La Salle star player.
Teng said he likes the Archers’ chances despite a slow start that saw them lose games to Ateneo and Far Eastern University.
“Siyempre, it was hard dahil 0-2. And sa two games na ‘yun, we know we could have won. Pero kaka-start pa lang ng season. Matagal-tagal pa,” said Teng.
