JASON Perkins bailed La Salle out of danger by hitting the winning basket as the Green Archers edged past Perpetual Help Altas, 81-79, in their knockout quarterfinal match in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan on Wednesday.
The Archers saw their 73-63 lead in the final quarter disappear into thin air as the Altas, sparked by Paul Dagangon and Prince Eze, came through with a 16-6 to knot the count at 79-all in the final six seconds.
Jeron Teng drove to the basket and drew a phalanx of Perpetual Help defenders, leaving Perkins open for the game-winning shot.
Teng finished with 19 points to lead four players in double figures for the Archers, who now advance to the semifinals of the pre-season meet.
“We went to Jeron in the last play and the man of Jason stepped up a little bit so he got open,” said La Salle coach Juno Sauler.
“Jason gives us a lot of things. His presence alone can cause problems for the opponent,” added the La Salle coach of the power forward, who finished with 11 points.
Perpetual Help got 25 points from Nigerian import Bright Akhuetie, while Dagangon chipped in 24 markers and G-jay Ylagan with 10.
