ATENEO cager Chibueze Ikeh was taken into police custody on Wednesday night following a complaint for alleged violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act, according to reports.
In a report by Rappler, a police spokesperson confirmed that Ikeh was arrested by Quezon City Police District personnel and was brought to Camp Karingal shortly after Ateneo’s UAAP men’s basketball game against University of the Philippines.
A bail of P24,000 was also set, according to the report.
Before being brought to Camp Karingal, several policemen were seen outside the Ateneo dugout at the Smart Araneta Coliseum moments after the Blue Eagles beat the Fighting Maroons.
Witnesses said several people were talking to Ateneo officials led by head coach Bo Perasol, team manager Epok Quimpo, and athletic director Em Fernandez inside the team dugout for about two hours.
Fernandez declined to divulge details about the matter, stressing that it is a “personal matter” by “one of our students” although Ikeh was the lone player in the Ateneo dugout after the game.
Ikeh later left the venue and boarded an unmarked vehicle which eventually brought him to Camp Karingal.
