UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Pep Squad guns for a fourth straight title as the highly-awaited UAAP Cheerdance Competition is staged Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Diliman-based cheerdancers vowed people haven’t seen everything yet after performing with a Madonna-inspired hairstyle in 2001 and their classic bald-look just a year ago.
Fourth year member Nicolette Ambulo said this season, the reigning three-time champions will have a `UP-like number.’
“Yun na lang, expect that it’s going to be very UP,” she relayed to Spin.ph as she refused to divulge any details about their performance.
The UP Pep Squad is currently tied with the University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe for the most number of titles with eight each. But another win this season would earn the team the tag as the winningest in the 19-year history of the competition.
But standing on the path of Pep Squad in its quest for greatness are rivals Salinggawi Dance Troupe, National University, and Far Eastern University.
The FEU Cheerdance Squad finished runner-up behind UP last year and is the only team to have won the championship twice outside of State U and UST.
The NU Cheer Squadron on the other hand, is looking to surpass its maiden podium finish last year when it placed third.
Completing the cast are the La Salle Green Animo Squad, Ateneo Blue Bubble Batallion, University of the East Red Squad, and Adamson Pep Squad.
The sequence of performance will have the FEU Cheerdance Squad kicking off the program followed by UP Pep Squad, UE Red Squad, and La Salle Green Animo Squad.
NU Cheer Squadron, UST Salinggawi, Ateneo Blue Bubble Batallion, and Adamson Pep Squad make up the second half of the performance.
