After initial awkward moment, FEU and NU players starting to jell at MJM Builders

    Oct 30, 2014

AFTER the fiercely fought UAAP Finals between Far Eastern University and National University, Gelo Alolino and Glenn Khobuntin look forward to playing alongside several of the Tamaraws with MJM Builders in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

Alolino and Khobuntin are two of three NU mainstays who joined the core of FEU at MJM Builders, two weeks after the Bulldogs defeated the Tamaraws for the championship of UAAP Season 77.

The Tamaraws-backed franchise begins its campaign on Tuesday against Cagayan Valley at 12 noon, although it began holding practices at the FEU-Diliman gym only last Monday.

“Pagod pa rin,” Khobuntin admitted when interviewed by on the sidelines of the unveiling of the UAAP Magazine on Tuesday night at the URBN Bar and Kitchen.

Khobuntin said FEU players welcomed them with open arms at MJM Builders notwithstanding the fact that the Bulldogs had just beaten them in their recent best-of-three Finals.

“Friendly naman. Nagkaka-ilangan pa sa practice dahil dalawang practices pa lang kami. Minsan overpassing pa nga,” said Khobuntin.

For his part, Alolino said with the UAAP Finals over and done with, school allegiance takes a back seat this time as he hopes the stint with MJM Builders will help him in his basketball career.

“UAAP is a different league. Magandang opportunity ito para sa amin dahil kaming dalawa ang naglaban sa championship, then ngayon magkakasama na kami,” said Alolino.

This early, the NU point guard said he can feel the chemistry being developed in the short time they’ve been together.

“Kaibigan ko rin si Mike (Tolomia) at Mac (Belo). Sobrang okay ang samahan namin. Mabait si coach Nash (Racela). Sobrang approachable. Nag-aadjust kami, nag-aadjust sila. We are working together,” he added.

Like Khobuntin, Alolino said he is still on a celebratory mood as NU players have accommodated several guestings following their championship victory.

But the 20-year-old guard is confident he can regain his bearings eventually.

“Kulang pa ako sa tulog. Nandoon yung masaya ka pa rin dahil sa championship. Eventually, makakabalik din ako sa kundisyon,” said Alolino.
