TWO years after jumping to the other side, Ateneo's Fonzo Gotladera has a chance to play against his former teammates.
Gotladera finally saw action for the Blue Eagles after transferring from De La Salle, scoring two points and hauling down six rebounds in their season-opening win over Adamson last week in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
“It’s good to be back,” Gotladera, who has completed his one-year residency, told Spin.ph. “Mixed emotions nga eh. The feeling is great.”
Now Gotladera is set to play against his friends and old teammates on Sunday as the Eagles battle the Archers for the first time this season at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“I’m excited. I get to play against my former teammates. Every time you face a rival school, it’s very exciting,” said Gotladera.
Gotladera says leaving La Salle was a hard decision as he considers his Archers teammates as brothers, but is simply glad to be back playing in the UAAP.
“Siyempre, it’s hard dahil they were like brothers. Pero life is not perfect din,” said Gotladera.
Gotladera likes the chances of his new team this season, with Kiefer Ravela leading the charge of a new-look team beefed up by a couple of blue-chip rookies.
“We feel like we are on a mission. We have goals. Playing for Ateneo is very, very great kasi the crowd, the alumni, the school, they are very supportive,” said Gotladera.
