MARIO Bonleon was relieved to have bounced back from what he believed was a series of poor games on his part to help University of Santo Tomas scores one over Far Eastern University on Saturday in Season 78 of the UAAP.
Bonleon scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half as the Growling Tigers beat the Tamaraws, 85-76, to improve their record to 10-3 and clinched at least a playoff for a Final Four berth.
The rookie said he is determined to bounce back in the FEU game, which is a must-win situation for the team with Ateneo slowly closing in on the Tigers in the standings.
“Ilang games na rin na pangit laro ko. Na-down ako. I didn’t work hard sa past few games. Pero ginawa ko, I prayed harder,” said Bonleon.
The win by UST allowed the school to close in on its victim, which slipped to a 10-2 card and had its nine-game winning run snapped.
Bonleon also took advantage of the momentary absence of Kevin Ferrer, who needed to rest at the dugout after suffering palpitations during the game.
The UST guard said he just tried to take advantage of the playing time given to him by coach Bong Dela Cruz.
“Role ko lang, pasundot-sundot lang at tumulong sa veterans. Napansin ko na nasa loob ako ng matagal. Nagkaroon ng tiwala sa akin si coach,” said Bonleon.
