Juno Sauler not doubting Thomas Torres, says misfiring guard will 'start getting it'

    Nov 13, 2015

DE La Salle is keeping its faith in guard Thomas Torres despite his struggle from beyond the three-point arc in this UAAP Season 78.

Although he is the team’s third leading scorer, Torres is making just 21 percent of his shots from downtown, converting 18-of-85 attempts.

Despite the poor three-point shooting clip, La Salle coach Juno Sauler isn’t about to stop Torres from doing his thing as he remains the team’s best three-point shooter.

Torres is actually shooting more triples than two-pointers (17-of-44).

“We are just waiting,” said Sauler. “He will start getting it.”

On Wednesday, Torres went just 1-of-5 from three-point range, although he still had a good game overall with 11 points and 12 rebounds in La Salle’s 72-68 win over University of the Philippines.

Prior to the UP game, Torres shot 1-of-6 from the same spot in a six-point production against Ateneo.

But Sauler said he sees no reason for Torres to stop shooting from downtown since the La Salle guard is actually the fifth most accurate three-point shooters in the league today.

“Thomas is one of our best shooters. Numbers might not show it but he’ll get there,” he said.
