LA Salle big man Arnold Van Opstal knows that last weekend’s victory over Far Eastern University won’t mean anything unless the Green Archers complete the Final Four task of beating the Tamaraws in their winner-take-all match on Wednesday.
The 6-8 Van Opstal said the Archers were no doubt the dominant bunch last Saturday after scoring a convincing 94-73 win over the Tamaraws.
But knowing FEU, the Fil-German slotman said there’s no time for La Salle to relax at this point.
“I expect them (Tamaraws) to come out even stronger than they did. Now, their backs are against the wall, so we can’t underestimate them and we can’t let this (Saturday) win get into our heads,” Van Opstal told Spin.ph.
The veteran La Salle center, who averages 7.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists this season, pointed out that beating the Tamaraws entails a lot of effort in rebounding, boxing out and execution.
“That’s our strength, we really want to crash the boards. And we just want to execute the way we did in practice. There’s no option but to perform at this stage,” added Van Opstal, who finished with 10 rebounds in La Salle’s 21-point blowout victory on Saturday.
La Salle is looking to make it back to the Finals and win a second straight UAAP title under second-year coach Juno Sauler.
