National University officially names cage great Chito Loyzaga as new director of school's sports program

    Apr 8, 2015

A MEMBER of the PBA 40 Greatest Players of all-time is the new athletic director of National University.

Chito Loyzaga was formally named as official of the school’s thriving sports program on Wednesday, taking over the job vacated by Junel Baculi.

NU representative to the UAAP Board Nilo Ocampo made the announcement, adding Loyzaga will also sit in the league Board in behalf of the school.

Loyzaga’s official appointment came on the day he was named as part of the PBA’s 40 Greatest Players list.

The burly son of legendary cager Caloy Loyzaga had stints with four pro ballclubs, but became popular when he played under playing-coach Robert Jaworski Sr. at Ginebra.

After retiring from basketball, Loyzaga became an executive of San Miguel Corp. before accepting the commissionership of the PSC.

A one-time UAAP commissioner, the 56-year-old Loyzaga said his experience in the government sports agency will be of great help for the sports program of NU.

“I think he’ll be able to contribute. He wants to be involved in the development of sports with the younger people now. That’s what he shared with us. We have the same vision mission when it comes to the young athletes. In the end, it’s developing athletes and grassroots development,” said Ocampo.

“We will also try to do that with NU.”
