THEY may end up meeting in the UAAP Finals, but on this afternoon, at least, brothers Jeric and Jeron Teng are on the same side.
De La Salle star Jeron Teng came out in support of his older brother during University of Santo Tomas' knockout match against Ateneo on Wednesday which the Tigers won, 74-82, at the Big Dome.
The Green Archer not only showed up on UST's side of the gallery but also wore the colors of Jeric's team, joining dad Alvin and the rest of the family in cheering for his brother.
UST coach Pido Jarencio acknowledged the support after the match, joking that the Tigers were unbeatable on this day because of the support of the De La Salle sophomore.
“Isipin mo pati kapatid, tiga-La Salle ‘yun, nakadilaw, paano na kami matatalo niyan?” said Jarencio in jest. “Pati tatay nakadilaw, pati nanay nakadilaw. Buong pamilya nakadilaw."
Ironically, it was Jeron and the Archers who dealt UST's campaign a big blow with a 69-64 victory last September 14 that left the Tigers to play a do-or-die match with the Blue Eagles.
If the siblings are to meet again in Jeric's final year in college, their teams will have to overcome tough odds.
Jeric and the Tigers face twice-to-beat top seed National University while Jeron's Archers square off with Far Eastern University in a playoff for the other twice-to-beat spot on Saturday in what has become a best-of-three affair between the two schools.
