Bo Perasol says anyone among his assistant coaches capable of taking over Ateneo job

    Nov 24, 2015

BO Perasol believes anyone among the assistant coaches during his stint with Ateneo is capable of taking over as head coach of the Blue Eagles following the end of his three-year tenure.

The search for a new Ateneo head coach is now on after the Blue Eagles ended their Season 78 campaign with a semifinal loss to Far Eastern University as Perasol has indicated he will no longer stay with the team.

Perasol, who led the Blue Eagles to two Final Four appearances in his three years in charge, said he would like to see one of the assistants take over the job.

“All of my assistant coaches are capable,” said Perasol.

Blue Eagles lead assistant coach and former San Beda mentor Ronnie Magsanoc is one of the top candidates wth an impressive resume highlighted by an NCAA title with the Red Lions in a one-and-done campaign in 2012.

Perasol said one of the qualifications for being a head coach is having a firm grasp of the environment at Ateneo.

“What’s important for Ateneo is you know the culture, you have to be there, you have to understand the people, you have to know the management, and you have to know what works with Ateneo,” said Perasol.

The former PBA head coach added the Blue Eagles are fortunate to have the whole offseason to evaluate the candidates for the job.

“Even before the season started, I already told them that I won’t be returning. Knowing Ateneo, it’s going to be difficult for them to choose. They have the whole season and the offseason to pick someone,” said Perasol.
