BAL DAVID was pleased to see his former Barangay Ginebra teammate Pido Jarencio lift University of Santo Tomas to this season’s UAAP finals, but seemed surprised when the champion coach broke down in tears after surviving the Final Four.
David wrote his thoughts on his Facebook account, congratulating Jarencio and his alma mater for reaching the finals after stunning top-seed National University in the semifinals by overcoming a twice-to-beat disadvantage.
“Just watched the replay of ust vs nu. Great game. Congrats coach pido and the rest of the tigers!!!” said David.
Jarencio broke down in tears after helping the Tigers make history, becoming the first No. 4 seed to reach the finals since the Final Four was instituted in 1994.
David, a member of the UST team during their dynasty in the 1990s against La Salle, bared that it was his first time he saw Jarencio overcome by emotions.
“Ngayon ko lang nakitang naiyak c dopids (Jarencio) sa tagal ko syang nakasama. SALUTE!!! Go Uste!!!” David wrote.
David and Jarencio were backcourt partners in the PBA during the 1990s coached by Robert Jaworksi.
Prior to his stint with the PBA's most popular ballclub, David was part of the UST dynasty in the 1990s with the point guard hitting a crucial basket to nail Game Three of the 1994 championship series against De La Salle.
