Austria still undecided on new Adamson contract

    Aug 22, 2013

COACH Leo Austria said he had been offered a contract extension by Adamson last month, but the Falcons mentor says he wants to see how the season goes before making a decision.

The 55-year-old Austria, in the final year of his contract with Adamson, has recently voiced his frustration over what he felt was a lack of commitment by the current Falcons squad. The Falcons have lost four straight contests and hold a 3-6 win-loss slate.

“Verbally, hindi pa ako nagco-commit. I want to see this season kung ano ang magiging outcome and then I will decide,” said Austria.

Austria bared that he has been verbally offered by no less than Adamson president Fr. Gregg Banaga to stay on as head coach of the Falcons, despite his other coaching jobs outside the UAAP.

“Sinabihan na ako verbally ng administration na i-eextend nila contract ko. That was last month pa,” Austria said.

Austria, however, is still open to staying with Adamson as he believes that he can turn the Falcons into a champion team.

“Gusto ko talagang i-develop ’yung team. May chance mag-champion ito. I believe na kaya kong mag-develop ng champion team. Pero nag-step up na rin kasi ang ibang schools in terms of recruitment,” said Austria.

Austria’s other coaching jobs have apparently not turned off management in terms of his commitment to the school.

Austria is also the head coach of the 2013 Asean Basketball League champion San Miguel Beer and was made an assistant coach of Petron in the PBA beginning in the Governors' Cup.
