Andre Paras considering move from UP Maroons to San Beda Red Lions

    Apr 21, 2014

BENJIE Paras said his basketball-playing son and now showbiz personality Andre remains part of University of the Philippines amid speculation of a move to San Beda in the NCAA.

Paras, the PBA's only rookie-MVP, said 6-foot-3 Andre is still with the UP Maroons - the same team he led to the school's first and only UAAP championship back in 1986 - despite his son's busy off-court schedule.

“Sa ngayon, naka-lineup pa siya sa UP,” Paras told “As of now, oo nasa UP pa rin siya.”

But when asked about a possible move to San Beda, the elder Paras admitted that it is being considered.

“Well, pinag-iisipan pa. Wala pang definite,” said Paras, incidentally a former San Beda Red Cub and a member of the current Red Lions coaching staff led by Boyet Fernandez.

After seeing action for La Salle Greenhills in the NCAA, the younger Paras decided to follow the path of his father by joining the UP Maroons.

He, however, saw limited action in his first year for the Maroons, playing in only eight games.

Outside basketball, Paras has also ventured into showbiz like his father. Recently, he got a break in acting, being one of the lead young stars in the Viva Films movie ‘Diary ng Panget.’

Andre is also a VJ for MTV Pinoy.

However, the elder Paras said basketball remains one of the top priorities of his son as Andre even joins practices of the D-League team NLEX Road Warriors during the college league offseason.

“Actually, sa NLEX dati na siya nag-papractice doon. Pero hindi pa siya puwede maglaro,” said Benjie.
