NO less than PBA great Alvin Patrimonio believes University of Santo Tomas stalwart Kevin Ferrer is PBA-ready.
The four-time league MVP saw the potential in the national team player up close after the fifth-year forward led the Tigers to a perfect 3-0 start in Season 78 of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
Ferrer, the former UAAP juniors MVP, scored 24 points in the school’s season opening game against Adamson, and had 13 and 16 markers in the Tigers’ big wins over Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines, respectively.
“He’s ripe for the pro (ranks),” said Patrimonio, who acts as the big men's coach of UST. “Andoon na ‘yung leadership niya.”
Ferrer and fellow graduating player Ed Daquioag have been a steady force for the Tigers, who won their first three games of the season for the first time since 1999.
“’Yung veteran attitude nila ‘yun ang nagdadala sa team,” said Patrimonio.
For the Tigers’ onw-two punch, they said they’re just making the most out of their final playing year in college, which is what keeps them motivated to always play 100 percent every game.
The outspoken Ferrer vowed to be the leader which the Tigers need.
“Last playing year na namin ito, kaya ibibigay ko na ang best ko,” said Ferrer. “Dapat na ako mag-mature at maging leader para sa teammates ko.”
