Left out in La Salle search, Franz Pumaren set to take over Adamson coaching job

    Nov 26, 2015

DON'T look now but Franz Pumaren is poised for a coaching comeback in the UAAP.

And it's not with La Salle.

Left out in the search for a new Green Archers coach following the resignation of Juno Sauler, Pumaren has become the leading candidate to take over the coaching job of UAAP rival Adamson Falcons, sources told

Pumaren, a La Salle alumnus, was a popular choice of the Taft community to take over the Green Archers job vacated by Sauler, having led the team to five successive championships during his time in charge.

However, it has become clear the former PBA star has been left out of the frame for the La Salle job after it emerged that Letran champion coach Aldin Ayo has become the choice of the Green Archers management.

Pumaren, though, won't be vacant for long. Unimpeachable sources told he has already started negotiations with rival school Adamson which has made an offer to the former Air21 and La Salle coach.

Pumaren, whose brothers Derrick and Dindo call the shots for University of the East, has in fact agreed to most of the terms and will soon be named to replace interim Adamson coach Mike Fermin, the source added.

Adamson, the source added, is determined to name a 'big-name coach' to revive its basketball program. The Falcons last reached the Final Four in 2011 under now San Miguel coach Leo Austria.

The school's only championship came in 1977 with a team bannered by Hector Calma and coached by Barok Urbiztondo.

Aside from Pumaren, also considered for the Falcons job were former San Beda coaches Frankie Lim and Ronnie Magsanoc, the source added.
