Adamson to write UAAP commissioner, insists referees wrong not to call foul on UST in endgame

    Jul 26, 2014

ADAMSON officials said they will file a letter to the UAAP Commissioner’s Office about the referees' decision not to call a foul on three University of Santo Tomas defenders who ganged up on Jansen Rios in the final moments of the two teams' game on Saturday.

Adamson team manager Gilbert Cruz told Spin.ph the coaching staff will submit a letter to UAAP Commissioner Andy Jao, believing a foul should have been called as Rios tried to protect the ball against the UST defenders in the final seconds of the Falcons’ 50-49 defeat to UST at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“Definitely, we will write (to the Commissioner),” said Cruz.

Rios was triple-teamed by UST defenders after collaring the rebound off a miss by Karim Abdul. He los the ball in the process, and Rios ended up fouling Kent Lao who sank one of his two free throws with 1.1 seconds left to play for the marginal point.

Even Rios said in an interview after the game that he was surprised no one from the three UST defenders was called for a foul that would have given Adamson a chance to win the game on the final play.

Cruz, however, made it clear that the letter is not a form of protest and is not intended to overturn UST’s victory. The loss was the third in a row for the Falcons.

“We still have a long ways to go. We still have a lot of games to bounce back. In fact, we are very happy because, for the first time, we saw the team fighting,” said Cruz.
