FAR Eastern University leaned on Jesus Melliza’s hat-trick to crush University of the East, 5-2, in UAAP men’s football Season 75 action on Sunday at the Erenchun field inside the Ateneo campus.
Melliza, who has now scored seven goals in four games, struck in the 34th, 58th and 73rd minutes to help the Tamaraws secure second spot with nine points on three wins and a loss to Ateneo on Thursday.
Arnel Amita (57th) and Chy Villasenor (61st) also scored for the FEU booters.
Ateneo extended its win streak to four by beating National University, 1-0, behind the goal of Christian Allan Noel in the 78th minute mark to stay in top spot with 13 points on four wins and a draw.
University of the Philippines, the reigning champion, blanked La Salle, 1-0, to improve to 2-1-1 win-loss-draw slate for seven points. Daniel Bernan Gadia scored the winner for UP in the 77th minute.
