NOT even a burglary incident inside the team dugout could hamper PSG’s march to the finals of the Philippine Football Federation-Smart Club Championship on Saturday night.
A theft incident took place inside the PSG locker room prior to its semifinal game against Green Archers United, with Francis Sumudivilla and Mark Fernandez's playing uniforms stolen.
The could have had disastrous repercussions for the team, had the staff not brought along an extra set of kits for the entire team.
“Luckily we brought both sets of jerseys,” PSG co-owner Dong Longa told Spin.ph.
The result had PSG overhauling a two-goal deficit and hanging tough in the stretch for a 4-3 win over the Green Archers, and an unlikely title showdown with giant-killer Ceres on Saturday at the Rizal Stadium.
As it turned out, Sumudivilla and Fernandez not only got to see action for PSG but also contributed to the victory. Sumudivilla even scored the team’s second goal in the penalty shootout, which proved enough for the team to clinch the remaining finals berth.
As for the stolen jerseys, Longa said Fernandez’s uniforms were later recovered when security people of the venue caught one of the male burglars who is still in his pre-teen years.
