FC Meralco Manila stormed back from a goal down to remain unscathed in the Philippines Football League with a 2-1 win over Ilocos United FC, Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Tahj Minniecon turned from goalscorer in their first match to provider this time as he assisted both Meralco goals on opposite halves to complete the comeback.
The visiting Aguilas was a bundle of energy early on as they attacked early and put the home team on their heels.
This resulted into an early goal from Graham Caygill in the 13th minute to stun the favored Manila side.
It didn't take long, however, for Meralco to equalize as Minniecon found a trailing Tyler Matas on the top of the box for the game tying goal in the 18th minute.
As the game went on, FC Meralco Manila started to look more comfortable.
Minniecon was once again involved in the attack, picking out Jake Morallo inside the box who then sent a header past former Meralco keeper Baba Sampana in the 52nd minute for the match winner.
'We expected a tough match. It was psychological for our team and that of the opponent primarily because a number of players in Ilocos used to play for Loyola Meralco," said Meralco coach Aris Caslib.
"So it was something that we expected but we never really expected them to play until the 90 mins, so it was really tough for us," he added.
With Matas and Morallo's goal, this meant seven different goal scorers for Meralco dating back to their 5-1 drubbing of Stallion.
The victory also catapulted them atop the standings with six points in two games. Ilocos United remained in the middle with one point.
