STEPHAN Schrock made the Philippines proud on Friday when he starred for Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2-0 victory over Apoel FC that secured its place in the knockout stage of the Uefa Europa League.
In one of the few times he was inserted in the starting XI, the 27-year-old Azkals star registered his breakthrough goal for the Bundesliga side, catching a left-side cross from Constant Djakpa before heading it in the 68th for the opening goal.
The goal of Schrock, who has scored thrice since playing for his mother’s country in 2011, was his first in seven appearances for his new professional club and first since last year when he also suited up for 1899 Hoffenheim.
It could also be the first-ever goal for a Filipino international in a European competition.
The Filipino-German midfielder then returned the favor nine minutes later when he drew the foul that led to the free kick and Djakpa’s shot that went past Apoel goalkeeper Dionisios Chiotis.
According to Europa League’s official website, the victory, Frankfurt’s fifth in six games, solidified its position atop Group F and assured its entry to the round of 32 while eliminating Apoel from contention.
