LOYOLA Meralco seeks to get back on the winning track when it takes on Nomads on Tuesday in the United Football League Cup at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Sparks are coming off a stunning 1-2 defeat at the hands of Pachanga last Saturday that relegated them to an unlikely position in third place in Group C behind their tormentors and Nomads.
Bannered by national team members James and Phil Younghusband, Anto Gonzales, and Ref Cuaresma, the Sparks face Nomads at 7:30 p.m. trying to bounce back from the shocking loss and at least gain a share of the lead.
A win won’t be a cinch for the star-studded Sparks, however, as they face a club that upset Pachanga, 1-0, thanks to an uncharacteristic own goal from the reigning Division 2 titlist last week.
Against Pachanga, the Sparks drew first blood courtesy of Byeong Yeol Jeong’s goal just before halftime, before their opponents scored two second-half goals to complete the come-from-behind win.
Earlier, defending champion Philippine Air Force guns for a share of the Group D lead as it collides with Army at 5:15 p.m.
The Airmen, whose last win came against Agila, 2-0, two weeks ago, will be boosted by the return of the Azkals’ Emelio Caligdong and Ian Araneta.
A victory for the Airmen will level them with Army, which is undefeated in two games, and led by veteran Azkals Ed Sacapaño, Nestorio Margarse Jr.,and Roel Gener.
