THE Philippines wrapped up its campaign in the FAS Tri-Nations Series 2022 with a 2-0 loss to host Singapore on Tuesday night at the National Stadium.
Safuwan Baharudin scored a header in the 10th and Shawal Anuwar struck in the 90th as the Lions beat the Azkals, who only had 15 players in uniform with a couple of players out due to health and safety protocols.
Adding to the team’s woes, the Azkals went down to 10 men in the 40th minute after Diego Bardanca was sent off.
The result ended a disappointing campaign for the Azkals, who began the series with a 1-0 loss to Malaysia last Thursday.
German Bundesliga player Gerrit Holtmann didn’t made the trip due to COVID-19, delaying his Azkals debut.
The Tri-Nations Series was part of the Azkals’ build-up for major competitions this year including the Asian Cup qualifiers set this June.
