STEPHAN Schrock said the Philippine Azkals are satisfied with the team’s performance in a slim loss to South Korea on Monday in the AFC Asian Cup.
Schrock said he was proud of the effort put up by the Azkals in a 0-1 loss to a Korean side that beat Germany, 20, in last year's Fifa World Cup.
Not bad for an Asian Cup debut for the Philippines, he added.
“We are very proud of that result,” said the Fil-German in a story ran by the Asian Cup website. “They have a lot of good players. They are composed and technically, tactically much above average for Asian players. We are happy with the performance.”
The Azkals fought toe-to-toe against the Koreans in their first group stage match until the 67th minute when Hwang Ui Jo scored the solitary goal of the match.
“Of course, we hoped for a draw or a win but we couldn’t get it and we have to take it,” said Schrock.
Schrock said the Azkals can draw some confidence from the performance against Korea when they head to Abu Dhabi to face China on Friday.
“We surprised everyone, I think, with the performance tonight. I talked to some friends in Germany and from Iran. I received a lot of messages from other teams where former teammates are, and they are saying we did very well, and we have something to build on.
“We have confidence, that’s why we qualified in the first place, and we believe always in ourselves to upset someone and be annoying to the other teams,” said the midfielder.
