THE two players who played a major part in the Philippine team's historic goal at last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup will be playing for different teams next season.

Sarina Bolden, who scored for the team known as Filipinas, to secure the country’s lone win in the World Cup against New Zealand, is headed to Italy after being released by her Australian club Newcastle Jets.

Meanwhile, Sara Eggesvik, the player who gave the assist that led to the Bolden goal last July 25, 2023, will also move and will play in Australia after signing with Western United.

Bolden still has a contract with the Australian side for the 2024-25 season but the Jets released Bolden due to her desire to play in Europe.

The Italian club that Bolden will play has not yet been identified.

Bolden had a remarkable season for the Jets. She joined the club after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and scored 14 goals to break the team record for most goals for the season.

“We wish her and her partner all the best for the future and we would love to see Sarina back in Newcastle playing for the Jets again in the future,” said Newcastle Jets CEO Shane Mattiske.

“Thank you so much for an amazing season last season. It was filled with a lot of history-breaking, record-breaking moments, and I’m just glad to be a part of it,” said Bolden.

Eggesvik played for KIL/Helme last season in Norway where she traces her roots, before moving to Australia.

The Filipinas midfielder’s move comes after teammate Jaclyn Sawicki is also set to play for a new team after 35 appearances with the club.

“Great to see Sara involved in the A-League,” said Sawicki in an interview during the recent Manila camp by the Filipinas. “It would have been nice to play together in the same club team, but luckily, I get to play alongside her for the national team so it’s all good.”
