THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has thrown its support to the staging of the Luzon Cup, a football tournament for boys 12-and under from November 21-24 at the Jose V. Yap Sports and Recreational Park in San Jose, Tarlac.
The four-day meet is being organized by the Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) and the Central Luzon Football Association (CLFA) in coordination with the Tarlac provincial and city governments and the Department of Education to encourage the holding of more age group football competitions throughout the country.
Fifteen teams from different football associations and football clubs in Luzon are seeing action in the event, with the 16th team, reigning Mindanao Cup champion Bukidnon Football Association, completing the field.
The staging of the event is the completion of NOFA’s nationwide ‘triangle’ of under 13-12 tournaments that also included the Bacolod-based NOFA Cup and the just concluded Mindanao Cup which was organized in tandem with the Davao South Regional Football Association (DSRFA), according to NOFA President Ricky Yanson Jr.
“I was really dumbfounded of his (Yanson) passion and love for football. And because of this character, I am supporting him morally and give support as the presiding chair of the PSC Board and Chief Executive Officer, I’m committed to support him in all his activities kung saan man siya dadalhin ng football,” said Ramirez during the formal launching of the meet Monday at the Century Park Hotel.
Yanson added that the three nationwide tournaments held by NOFA is in line with the association’s ‘Football Para sa Lahat’ vision to partner with fellow football associations in staging more tournaments for young players in other parts of the country.
“Our dream, through ‘Football Para sa Lahat,’ is to support more tournaments and activities for all age groups. We want more Filipinos to enjoy football. And we believe more football development programs will eventually mean more lasting success in the international arena,” said Yanson.
