THE Philippines dropped a 2-1 decision to Indonesia on Monday night in the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in what could be the final match of Stephan Schrock in an Azkals uniform.
Philippine Azkals vs Indonesia recap
Goals by Dendy Sulistyawan and Marselino Ferdinan Philipus in the first half proved to be enough for the Indonesians to clinch a spot in the semifinals and spoil the Filipinos’ last match before formally bowing out of the tournament.
The 36-year-old Schrock announced on the eve of the match that Monday will be “99 percent” his final match of his national team career, and he did his best to walk away with a flourish.
Schrock issued a cross to substitute Jens Rasmussen, who knocked in a header in the 83rd minute for the Azkals’ first goal of the contest.
It wasn’t enough, however, with the Azkals ending the tournament with only a win, officially missing out on the semifinals in the AFF tournament for the second straight time.
