THE Philippines has been grouped with reigning silver and bronze medalist Indonesia and Singapore, respectively, in the men’s football tournament of the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.
The Under-23 Azkals joined Indonesia and Singapore in Group A following the draw ceremony held on Wednesday in Singapore. Myanmar and Cambodia were also drawn into the group.
Defending gold medalist Thailand, on the other hand, is in Group B with Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei, and Timor Leste.
Thailand’s Under-23 team is coming off a fourth-place finish in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. Its core also ruled the AFF Suzuki Cup late last year.
The Azkals U23 team is making a return to the SEA Games after missing the competition in 2013 after it failed to pass the screening process of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
The SEA Games will be played from June 5 to June 16 but the football competition will begin much earlier on May 27.
