THE Philippine women’s football team has tied its best-ever Fifa (International Football Federation) ranking on Friday in a development that augurs well for its last-ditch bid to be included in delegation bound for the Southeast Asian Games this December.
A month after becoming the biggest mover in the women’s rankings by moving seven places up, the Malditas of coach Ernie Nierras moved another notch up to 75th this time - a feat last done in December 2009.
The Malditas, the 16th-ranked squad in Asia, are preparing for the Asean Football Federation Women’s Championship next month in Myanmar, where they will face the host country, Indonesia, Laos, and the Japanese Under-23 team.
But the priority remains the SEA Games, although they have yet to receive the go-signal to join the Myanmar-bound delegation from the SEA Games Task Force.
The Malditas are currently in the US for a two-week training camp. They are expected to meet their Haitian counterparts in a two-legged friendly on August 4 and 6.
