THE United Football League (UFL) has cracked the whip on two officials who officiated the Global-Kaya match marred by an early questionable decision last Saturday at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill.

Referee Christian Pacaña and assistant referee 1 Christopher Bautista have been suspended from officiating 50 games each for issuing a straight red card to OJ Porteria after the Kaya striker committed a handball that led to a disallowed goal just 10 minutes into the game.

Pacaña, 29, and Bautista, 35, are expected to be absent from Division 1 and 2 matches for a month.

The league also downgraded Poteria’s infraction to a yellow card, which means the Azkals dynamo can play in his team’s game against Socceroo on Thursday.

UFL head of operations and technical director Ritchie Gannaban on Wednesday confirmed the development, believed to be the first time in history the league cracked the whip on often-criticized erring officials.

Gannaban, though, refused to make a comment as he has yet to get hold of a copy of the full report on the deliberations made that led to the suspension.

Kaya coach David Perkovic earlier hit out at the officiating, particularly the red-card call, saying “ridiculous” decisions like that cost championships are turning the league into a farce.
